Ellery _______ so far we have pretty nice middle names. looking fo something more exotic?
First, I suggest the "o" spelling, to round out the name and to help avoid the child being called "celery". Trust me...someone will think of it. Children are cute, but they are not all nice people.

As to middle names, try to avoid the latest over-used baby names, like Madison, Mackenzie, Montana, and Emma, or common middle names like Lee, Marie, or Elizabeth. I suggest looking at "most popular baby name" lists for middle names to veer away from.

Also, for the love of Pete, please stay away from picking a normal name and giving it a weird spelling (one website says: "While it's true that Keightl'nne looks very different from Caitlin or Katelyn, it is still pronounced the same way and is still ultimately the same name. You may be causing your child a lifetime of confusion as she attempts to spell her name over the phone, while she is still one of five or six Caitlins in her class.") It's just overdone.

To find a more exotic name, look on an exotic site! Find baby names from different countries or continents (Africa, the Middle East, Italy, France) that sound pretty to you, having meanings that you like, etc. Just make sure to not go heavy on E, L, or Y, so that her whole name stays fresh and distinct.

Here are some of the offerings from other-country sites, with different starting letters:

1. India, M

Mahika (the earth)

Mahima (greatness)

Malashree (an early evening melody)

Mrinalini (lotus)

Mahua (an intoxicating flower)

2. Greece, A

Araminta (a beautiful fragrant flower)

Anstice (the resurrected one)

Ariadne (the holy one)

Astrea (innocence)

Ava (an eagle)

3. Africa, N

Nadira (rare)

Nehanda (hardiness)

Nelaja (one who comes with joy)

Nosine (pronounced no-seen-ay, born on Thursday)

Nyota (warrior)

4. France, S

Soleil (pronounced so-lay, sun)

Shantay (enchanted)

Searlait (petite)

Sennett (wise one)

Solange (rare jewel)

5. Spanish, mixed

Dulcinea (sweet)

Ines (gentle)

Lola (strong woman)

Querida (beloved)

Savannah (from the open plain)

Anyway, good luck on your hunt for the right middle name! (And I mean that - coming from someone who ended up with "Stefanie". *grins*)
